..."Ms. Sanford, why am I failing your class?!?!"
"Well, let me check my gradebook. *pause for thoughtfulness* Oh. Well, ________, you haven't passed a test in here this year, and it looks like you only turn in your homework half of the time, and when you do it's incomplete."
"Yeah, but why am I failing????"
Freshmen. I NEED A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Turn back time, to about 2 weeks ago:
I was going over how to name some chemical compounds with my chemistry classes. I took about 15 minutes to explain, in detail, how you figure out what proportions the elements need to be listed in and how to actually say things like 'potassium iodide' and 'sodium sulfide'. I noticed one girl drawing a picture in her science notebook, paying me absolutely no heed. She was in her own little world. Little did she know, that she was going to need what I was reviewing with the class in less than 30 seconds.
"OK, put everything away except for a pencil."
Her head shot up. I passed out the pop quiz, and a panicked look passed over her face. She waited until I was close and said "Uh, Ms. Sanford ... I don't know how to do any of this". I looked at her and said "I'd have more sympathy for you if you hadn't been drawing pictures all period", handed her the test, and walked away.
Days like these make me wish I would have majored in underwater basket weaving.
